Rodeway Inn Lake Wales - Winter Haven

The Mexican restaurant next door is closed, but there’s another one a quarter mile away that was very good. Egg House, a couple of blocks down the road, was an excellent breakfast spot. We enjoyed our stay very much. The rooms were spotless and updated with new furniture, tile, toilet, shower, and more. Management and service were friendly, and for the price this accommodation was a super bargain.

This Roadway Inn is kept up much like the chain used to be. It’s one of the cleanest motels I’ve stayed in for quite a while, with exceptionally clean, updated rooms. Service was excellent, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It’s also very conveniently located in the Lake Wales area. I’d have no problem staying here again.

The staff were consistently pleasant and nice to deal with, but the setup left a lot to be desired for seniors or anyone with a disability. My husband and I booked a handicapped room for three nights, plus a second room for our daughter and her kids for two nights. We called the day before to confirm the rooms would be together and were given the room numbers. When we arrived Thursday, there was no bathroom in the lobby. They first put us on the second floor, but my husband couldn’t manage stairs and there’s no elevator, so they moved us downstairs. Then we were told the rooms couldn’t be together after all, even though they were only five rooms apart and we’d confirmed the arrangement the day before. Our bathroom wasn’t accessible. It had a tub with no grab bars or mat to prevent slipping, and there was no smoke detector in the room. Both vending machines were out of order. My daughter and the kids arrived Friday, and on Saturday she was told the pool was being shocked and would be closed for two days. At 9:30 Sunday morning we were putting things in the car, and a staff member asked if we were leaving. I said we were going to breakfast and would be back. We returned at 10:50, ten minutes before checkout, to make a final check for our belongings, but the room had already been stripped and the beds made, and the Do Not Disturb sign was gone. I only saw three staff members during the stay. If you’re able-bodied and only need a place to sleep before heading out, it may suit you. For seniors and people with disabilities, the amenities just aren’t there.

I’ve stayed twice, and both visits I got excellent service at the desk and slept well. The room and linens were clean, and the king room had a loveseat plus plenty of workspace. The laundry machines were clean too. It’s close to everything.
