Westmont Inn - Lakeland

When we checked out, they said we owed $290, despite quoting us $186 for two nights and saying they'd waive the pet fee. The owners got into a screaming match with us, saying, “We told you leave last night!” and “And this was an act of God.” They gave no refund. We disputed the card charge and contacted the attorney general about gouging. We were there during Hurricane Milton. The place has no lobby, just someone behind glass with a speaker hole, and there were homeless people out front. The room seemed all right at first, until we saw cockroaches. The beds were very uncomfortable, and there was only one pillow per person. When Milton hit at night, the ceiling started leaking and then coming down. It looked like it had been repaired several times. Don't give your money to this roach motel from hell.

I was there for only 45 minutes, the day before a hurricane, to drop off food for my cousin, who was sheltering at this motel. As I was leaving, a woman who said she was the owner stopped me and yelled because I hadn't seen their 3x5 index card saying “no visitors.” I wouldn't have complied with that ridiculous request during a natural disaster anyway. I called Westmont Hospitality Group-WHG about it and found out this isn't a real Westmont, they just put the name on the place. Don't stay here. I couldn't file a complaint with WHG, so I complained to DPBR about other problems I saw. While doing that, I found DPBR had visited this location multiple times over verified consumer complaints. There are holes in the walls, the rooms are filthy, toilets don't flush, lamps have no bulbs, and leaking ceilings flood the floors. The mattresses are filthy too, with cigarette holes in them, and housekeeping is just plain horrible. There are bed bugs, drug activity on the premises, and unknown guests walking around. This hotel should be shut down. I wouldn't put my pet fish in this rundown, disgusting place. I'll be calling code enforcement.

The price is too high, and there were no towels in the room at all. I didn't realize until I was soaking wet getting out of the shower. By then they wouldn't discount the room, and it was too late. Stay away. This place isn't good, safe, or healthy.
