Fremont Inn

My room turned out to be larger and better appointed than I expected, and housekeeping had done a great job. I’m picky and always check for dust and grime first, but couldn’t find any. It’s an older property, though it’s in fantastic shape and very well maintained. Give it a try for a short visit or a longer stay.

The room was tidy and clean, and the other staff I met were pleasant. But the front desk experience at Fremont Inn in Lakeview, Oregon, overshadowed those positives, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here or return myself. I called to book and immediately felt unwelcome. When I asked whether breakfast was included, the office manager said, “It depends on how many guests I have that day.” After I booked, she rushed through the confirmation number. When I asked if she could email or text it, she sighed audibly before taking my email. I arrived around 1 p.m. after a drive of more than six hours, hoping to rest. The parking lot was empty and there seemed to be hardly anyone staying, so I thought an early check-in might be possible. Before I’d finished asking, she cut in with, “No, the earliest I can check you in is at 3 pm,” in a curt tone. I then asked if I could at least use the restroom and got a rude “No.” She said my card would open it, so I couldn’t use it before checking in, then walked off while I was still standing there. This wasn’t my first choice, but the other decent places in town were mostly booked, so I had to wait and come back as instructed. Breakfast the next morning was minimal and depressing, hardly a feature worth mentioning. As expected, I saw only one other guest. Other reviews describe the manager’s poor attitude too. It makes me wonder whether there’s any accountability, perhaps because she’s related to the owners.

My room was cleaned every day, though I found the yellow linens and towels off-putting. The stay cost nearly $3,000 for 11 days, which felt like a lot for a place like this. It was a business trip, so I didn’t have to stomach paying that much myself. I only chose it because it was one of the better options in such a small town.

Really clean, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast choices were decent, too. I’d recommend Fremont Inn.
