The place has a cozy cabin feel, and the room itself was nice, but the foam mattress was harder to sleep on than a regular spring mattress. The service was poor. I called ahead and got a reservation at a standard time, but the guy at the desk seemed shy about talking. I noticed a swastika finger-drawn on one of the doors, like someone had traced it on a frosted car window. The owner could easily have seen it walking by. The deadbolt took a hard push to lock, and there was rust on the shower head. I only got one key, and the knob locks automatically when the door closes, even if you unlocked it, so keep the key with you. I tried to reach the office at 9 the next morning to add a night, but it was locked and nobody was there. I tried again at opening time, then returned at 10:30, when it was finally open. There was a tray for the key, so I left it and went. The desk also isn't staffed around the clock. They're trying to make a nice roadside place to sleep, but with the service and that mark on the door, I'd give it one star. I recommend Quality Inn in Marshall, 45 minutes away.

The room was okay and heated well. But I could only get to the hotel a day late, so they canceled my booking and kept the money. Even after I asked several times, they never issued an invoice, and I had to pay again for the night. From my point of view, that was a rip-off.

The room was really cozy, even with the blizzard outside, and it was great, clean, and stocked with everything we could possibly need. The staff weren't especially welcoming.

Everything in the room worked, and it was very quiet at night. The bathroom was sparkling clean and the water pressure was great. The carpet could use replacing, but the room itself was very clean, the bed comfortable, and I appreciated having a fridge and microwave. For a small-town hotel in the middle of nowhere, it worked well. Looks like they've upgraded and put in some TLC.

We stayed for three nights and had no issues at all. The motel has a clean, nostalgic look that suited the rural area. I grew up watching all the Little House on the Prairie episodes and wanted to visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum and the original dugout prairie. The motel was only about 10 miles from Walnut Grove. We'd stay here again, hopefully.
