AC Hotel Lansing University Area

We made a last-minute trip to meet up with family from Grand Rapids and visit our granddaughter and daughters. The rooms were spacious, modern, and comfortable, and the bathroom was clean with an amazing shower. The one drawback was the lack of a microwave in the room. We’ll be back.

The staff we met were really nice, but that was the only good part of the stay. The room was filthy: dirty comforters on the beds, and our toddler’s and five-year-old’s feet were dirty after they’d been walking around for only an hour or so. The towels didn’t look clean either. There was what looked like hair from previous guests in the washcloths, and the shower had no soap or shampoo. It felt like a low-budget motel, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here. As Marriott Gold elite rewards members, we were truly disappointed by the hotel’s condition.

We booked four months ahead and arrived at 3pm, but our room wasn’t ready until 8:45pm. Plenty of other guests were stuck waiting for hours, too. At breakfast, there was no coffee, and I watched someone prepare the à la carte meals without gloves or washing her hands, piling food onto open-faced toast. The whole place was chaotic. Definitely never again.

The motion-activated bathroom light has no obvious way to switch it off, which is a lovely surprise in the middle of the night. The shower controls are poor, and the HVAC made an unsettling sound like an electric train leaving a station, though it wasn’t loud. The room felt bare and cheap despite the hotel being fairly new, and it’s nowhere near the standard of AC hotels in Europe. Reception was cold, staff looked dressed for gardening, and no one acknowledged me walking past. They didn’t mention my Titanium status or know about my online check-in until I pointed it out after the clerk struggled at the computer. I also got no information about breakfast hours or location, or even where the elevators were. I doubt I’d stay here again.
