Hyatt House Lansing University Area

The breakfast was a bright spot. French toast, bacon when available, eggs, potatoes, and oatmeal with lots of toppings were good. Yogurt and orange juice were usually there, though the yogurt ran out quickly. Apple juice stayed stocked. The Canadian bacon was chewy, but syrup helped. The square dishes looked fun but weren't always clean, and sometimes the silverware was dirty too. The room was spacious and quiet enough on the fourth floor, with nice beds and pillows, decent water pressure and quality, and free internet. The new building seems solid. The bathroom's motion-sensor overhead light doesn't detect movement through the shower door, so it goes dark unless you finish quickly. The mirror light works without the sensor. The toilet seat felt flimsy even for an average-sized person. Downstairs music was decent, with maybe 30-40% of songs quite pleasant and many others tolerable. I didn't use the pool this time, though I hope to if I come back. Parking costs extra, and the lot is close to the entrance. The surrounding roads and parking area aren't in great shape, though that's not the hotel's fault.

Brandy went out of her way to make our Christmas stay special and make sure my family had a good experience. We visit the Lansing area often, and because of her customer service, we'll definitely stay here from now on.

The front desk seemed short staffed and busy helping other guests. I heard one employee tell a guest, "I don't work in this part of the hotel." Still, getting in and out was easy, and the hotel is very close to campus. The layout connecting the AC to the Hyatt House made the place feel much larger. Breakfast was okay, with fake eggs and a different protein each day, and the coffee was good. The bed was very comfortable, and the blinds blocked outside light completely.

The service from two front desk employees made us really uncomfortable. The older woman with grey and brunette hair rolled her eyes and was rude on the phone, and the younger brunette man with slight stubble wasn't very helpful either. Both came across as passive aggressive. They didn't even explain where our room was, which felt like a basic part of hospitality. I've stayed at lots of Hyatt hotels, and this was the worst for customer service. Other staff were welcoming, especially the young woman across the building by the bar, but those two bad experiences overshadowed that. After reading other reviews, it seems others have also encountered rude, unhelpful staff, so be cautious.
