The coupon book I got for booking directly had several BOGO meal deals and discounts for food, shopping, and experiences, and I used some of them. But the coupons expired halfway through my stay. The front desk knew the new books hadn't arrived and said the staff would honor mine, yet I still had to explain the situation several times during the second half of the visit. Housekeeping was another hassle. I said yes to daily service, but my room was skipped the first day, I had to ask on the second, and on the third it wasn't done until after 4pm. The person who checked me in seemed bored and irritated, like putting down their phone and dealing with me was a nuisance. The bathroom is small and has no counter, though the rack over the toilet worked well for toiletries. It has a regular light, a heater/light, and an exhaust fan. The shower temperature kept fluctuating, and several showerhead sprayers were clogged. I paid extra for an upgraded room and got a mini fridge, but couldn't figure out how to make it colder. The towels were especially rough. The room had a locking door, AC, TV, a decent bathroom, a comfortable bed with linen that looked clean, and a place to plug in my phone. There was no dresser, so I used the ironing board for extra counter space over the four days. It did have a small round table and two chairs. The window was out of reach and covered with a stained glass sticker. My room was next to the ice machine and elevator, though that turned out to be less bothersome than expected. Cleanliness was about what I expected, but finding someone else's hair on the floor and grime on the doorjambs made me cringe. Then there were a few strange things. On the second morning, I thought I could feel my boyfriend still in bed behind me while I heard him in the bathroom. I texted to check, and he was in the bathroom; the feeling in the bed went away. On the last morning, he felt the bed dip by his feet as if someone had sat down. During an earlier convention visit, he returned to his room about 20 minutes after leaving and found the bathtub faucet running full blast with hot water. There was no steam and no housekeeper around. Room 269.

Binion's has a rough-around-the-edges charm, and it feels like old Vegas. Walking in is like stepping into the city's history, since the World Series of Poker started here. The casino floor is classic and unpretentious, with good table minimums. Upstairs, the steakhouse has one of the best views of Fremont Street.

My wife and I are ranchers in Texas, and we had a lot of fun on Fremont during the NFR and great food at Benny's. Binions was a different experience, though. Some dealers and supervisors spoke in another language, which made things awkward. A lot of the dealers were rude, snobby, and didn't engage with us. A few were pleasant, though, and one in particular was outgoing, polite, and professional. We think his name was "Poz". His boss belittled him at our table, but Poz still gave us a wonderful time with great jokes and made the experience amazing.

We were charged $60 for two double Tito's and Red Bulls, after being told the same order was $38 last weekend. We stay on Freemont to avoid getting hit with outrageous prices, so we'll never come back here. Insane, it's more expensive than Circa, where at least I'm paying for the atmosphere.

Being right next to all that cash made me grin. It had that rare "only in Vegas" excitement, and for me the hype actually held up. I could feel the room's energy and think about the history and legends who'd walked through those doors. It felt like more than a tourist stop, almost like touching part of the city's soul. If you're downtown, this is a blast and a great memory to take home. It reminded me why I love this crazy city.
