I needed a budget hotel for two nights and would return if the price were right. I’d originally booked at the El Cortez, but my room faced the nightclub and the noise was booming, so I didn’t even go in. I went back to the desk and asked for a quieter room, and they sent me to the cabana suites. It was much quieter, though the rooms were small and very dark, with barely any window. I didn’t bother trying to change anything since I was only there two nights and needed something affordable. Fremont and lots of coffee shops are easy to walk to. The lobby had a cool retro feel, but wasn’t staffed after a certain hour.

You can reach Fremont Experience with a short walk, and Carson Street has some great places to eat. The hotel sits across from the main El Cortez building, in a decent downtown spot.

There are a lot of cosmetic flaws around the room, and plenty of unused space. The TV feels too small from the bed, while the toilet paper holder is awkwardly placed. The bed also seemed more like a double than a queen, though I can't be sure.

The parking garage is only a few feet away and has an elevator, so getting around with my things was easy. Inside, the room was roomy enough to unpack and move around, with plenty of outlets, a big mirror, and two bathroom sinks that were handy for getting ready with others. The bathroom itself was spacious, and I loved the walk-in shower. Everything was very clean, and the two AC units kept the room just right for me. I felt comfortable and safe here. The customer service was smooth, with no problems, and the Tiffany blue and checked black-and-white lobby was lovely. I really loved how beautiful and unusual the room was. It felt like home, and I'd definitely come back.

The cabana suites look worn and tired now, so we'll stay somewhere else next time. We used to make this our usual place before the pandemic. Rooms and shared spaces seem run down, with stained carpets and crooked fixtures, and the doors all slam loudly. The front desk staff were polite, but housekeeping was hit or miss about replacing towels and making up the room. When we booked, the casino was cleaning its main parking garage. We did find a place to park, but we should have been told in advance. In July 2024, major street construction was happening outside the suites. Work started at 6 a.m. on weekdays and was very loud, enough to wake you up. A heads-up about that would have been appreciated too.
