Highland Inn

The price changed from what I’d been quoted. I called to ask about rates and deposits and was told it would be $90 plus tax with no deposit. When I arrived, they wanted $113 plus a $50 deposit. I raised it with the manager, an older Indian gentleman, and he said everyone had different prices. It seemed like he, his son, and his wife would each quote something different to get you to pay more. There’s no consistency or communication among the staff, and they were rude and argumentative when I explained what I’d been told. The rooms are below average too. This motel was unprofessional and not worth the hassle. Try Howard Johnson or Motel 6 instead. Horrible business!

The bathroom water got hot quickly and had good pressure, and there were enough lights to choose how bright we wanted the room. I also thought it was a thoughtful, unusual touch that the room included deodorant. It looked newly renovated, we were on the ground floor, and having a gas station across the street was convenient. There were a few dead bugs in the room, which was a bit unsettling. The mini fridge didn’t keep things very cold, though the freezer seemed to work. Our neighbors were loud, yelling about a dog outside and stomping around, though that wasn’t the motel’s fault. Would I stay again? Maybe, if my finances left me no better option.

The price was fine, and the two-ply toilet paper was a plus. But the room smelled like stale bong water and cigarettes, the floor felt dirty, and the hangers had strange stains. The AC sounded like an airplane engine.

My son and I stopped for a night to get out of the truck. The location was convenient, right across from the TA truck stop, but I won’t stay here again. It felt like a cheap motel that had been repainted, and the room had a smoke detector hanging from wires, a broken outside secondary lock, a twin lamp shade between the beds that shocked me whenever I touched it, and a bathroom door that wouldn’t close properly. The manager also made me uncomfortable. When I went to rent the room with our U-haul, he asked too many personal questions. He stood outside smoking and watching us when we left to return it, and was still watching when we got back in an Uber. I’d chosen a non-smoking room because my son dislikes cigarette smells, then stepped outside to vape. The manager was still out there smoking and watching us. Once I was back in the room, he called to tell me not to smoke inside. If he’s watching guests that closely, he ought to know what they’re doing. The rooms are trashy motel quality at resort prices, and the manager came off as creepy. Don’t stay here. Howard Johnson on Tropicana is less than half the price.
