Hampton Inn & Suites Lawton

The staff were great, and the other amenities were as expected, but I was really disappointed by my room. Renovations were underway, and mine looked like they’d only partly started: the shower bottles had been pulled from the wall, the doors barely moved and seemed ready to come off their track, and the sink drained very slowly. The desk was bowed in the middle, there was no fridge, and the walls had holes where pictures had been taken down. The TV remote didn’t work either. None of that was the staff’s fault, but it was probably the worst room I’ve stayed in.

The breakfast woman was fabulous, and Gage at the front desk had the patience of a saint. They’re the only reason this gets two stars. The rooms badly need work: they’re outdated, the walls are peeling, the tub was dirty and I cleaned it myself, and there was cardboard from beer cases under the dresser. The sheets and towels were stained, so I had to ask for replacements. The water was cold until I asked them to turn up the hot water, and the maintenance man did that quickly. I also watched a family arrive late after flight trouble, even though they had a reservation and had called to make sure the room was held. The woman at the desk said early check-in would cost $70, or $40 in cash. They had booked those same rooms, so why charge them for early check-in when they were just arriving late? And why was cash cheaper? It felt like a scam taking advantage of a family. The hotel needs major improvements. I wouldn’t recommend it at all.

The building and accommodations are dated and need attention. My standard king room was okay, but the toilet kept running. I told the front desk the flapper needed replacing, then came back a few hours later to find it still unfixed. The office chair was ripped and falling apart, and the TVs weren’t smart TVs. All in all, the stay was okay. As a Hilton Honors member, I know Hilton’s standards, and this Hampton Inn felt like a Motel 6. Disappointing.

The breakfast was fresh and delicious, with several choices and different main dishes each day. The hotel was in a handy spot for Army Family and Graduation Days, about 15 minutes from base, with lots of restaurants and a Wal-Mart basically in the parking lot. The front desk staff were all nice, and the room was clean and tidy, with two queen beds and enough space for my sister and me for three nights. There was no mini fridge, though there’s a microwave downstairs. The room service staff were awful. On day two, a woman was cleaning our room while we were out from about 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. She stole my new perfume and my sister’s vape. The manager came up and searched the room, then said he’d checked the carts and other areas too, as if the items hadn’t been put in her pockets. Nothing came of it beyond the day manager saying he’d have a chat with the staff member.
