Comfort Inn Layton - Salt Lake City

It was a generally good stay, with a quiet hotel, clean rooms, plenty of towels, and a strong shower. Free breakfast was a nice extra. The carpet looked worn and needs replacing, and the outdoor garbage needed to be emptied.

Ms. Lesa made this feel like a home away from home. My youngest was so excited to get back after her gymnastics meet and show Lesa her medals. We were greeted by her joyful attitude, and she really made the stay better. The hotel may be older than others, but it was clean and the staff were amazing. We stayed four nights in a quiet, comfortable place, and those cinnamon rolls were hard to beat. We got up early enough to enjoy them on two mornings. The location was fabulous for food, shopping, and activities. We'd definitely come back.

We never got into the bed or left it messy. The kids only sat on the bed and chairs while my husband called Priceline, and our three year old used the bathroom. We didn't use the towels or soap because we didn't want to mess anything up. Still, the hotel said the beds and bathroom had been used and refused a refund. The Priceline representative contacted the hotel, and they claimed we'd been there over four hours and used the beds. That wasn't true. We were there for one hour, largely because we kept getting put on hold by Priceline. We'd paid Priceline for a room with two queen beds and a pullout sofa, but after checking in we found a room with only the two queens. With four kids, it couldn't work for our family. Lisa at the front desk was dismissive and rude, and didn't help us get the room we'd booked. They just told us to contact Priceline for a refund. It's clear they care more about a bathroom having been used than about their customers. The service and experience were terrible. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

I arrived to check in on April 8 for a stay through April 11, but an unexpected emergency forced me to leave after about three hours. I let the front desk know right away and explained the situation directly to the manager. I even offered to pay for the first night, as is standard in these situations, but the manager wouldn't refund any of the unused nights or show any flexibility. The hotel appeared fully booked when I checked out, so it seems the room could have been rented again. Lisa greeted us rudely and acted arrogantly toward me and the kids, which made an already stressful situation worse. I've traveled often and never had a property refuse to work with someone who gave immediate notice because of an emergency. Choice Hotels corporate couldn't resolve it either when I contacted them. After this experience, I won't stay at Choice Hotels again. If you're thinking of booking here, check the early departure policy carefully. Once you're checked in, there seems to be no flexibility, even in a real emergency.
