Abendblume - Adults Only

The rooms are charming and beautifully detailed, with things like a Christmas tree, and the place itself is lovely. That's why so many reviews are glowing. For me, though, the service was a letdown, mostly because communication was nearly nonexistent. This is a solid four-star place, but we had been considering booking more nights and left after breakfast. We won't be back. When we arrived, two groups were already waiting. One seemed to have a piece of paper, and the other was waiting for one. At least one group was as confused as we were about what to do with it. We were asked our name and handed a paper, without a welcome or an explanation that we could go to our room whenever we wanted. We sat there wondering if it was okay to leave. A group that arrived after us found the paper too and seemed just as perplexed. In winter, you have to tell them when you want to use the jacuzzi. That's somewhat understandable, but the welcome card only said to let them know if you wanted it hotter, up to 104F. Breakfast wasn't bad, but since I don't eat meat, cheese and toast bread were the only savory options for me. I was hoping for eggs. They brought a small dish of potato with egg on top, and I had to ask what it was and whether it had onion. I was told there was no onion, but there was a lot. I'm allergic, and had to rush to the toilet a few seconds later. No one said anything when we entered the breakfast room. We only learned they'd bring coffee because other guests who'd arrived before us told us. The potato and egg dish appeared in front of us without anyone saying what it was or that it was coming. We waited with what passed for bread for an egg that never arrived. Leavenworth has a cheap, great German bakery, but this wasn't bread to me, having lived in Germany. Since no one explained anything, we couldn't know if another dish was coming. There's a dessert for guests each night, but you have to guess when it gets put out. Ours appeared a little after 8:30 pm, while people had been checking from 8 pm to see if it was there. It wasn't a big dessert, and I don't know if there would be enough for everyone if guests knew when it was coming. There was free popcorn, but when we went there was only one bag for all the rooms, at least four of which were occupied. They could have put out four. There's a phone, but it goes to voicemail, though messaging worked. I travel a lot and have lived for years in Europe, Asia, and now North America. This place stands out for the huge gap between its lovely, if small, rooms and its terrible communication.
