American Motel

A friend also told me about a bad experience she had here after hurricane Helena. She said that while she was out for a couple of hours, she came back and found the owner in her room going through her suitcases and personal things, holding some of her underwear. My friend said the owner then told her to leave and banned her because she'd eaten at the table in the room, which apparently wasn't allowed. I called earlier today just to ask what a smoking single room would cost for one night and what the check-in and checkout times were. The woman I spoke with was hateful and refused to answer. She called me a name in another language. I don't know what it meant, but I'm guessing it wasn't "nice girl," lol. I was only trying to get the details I needed to decide whether to book. If this is how they treat people before they even stay, I would never stay here. I told the person on the phone I would share what happened to me and my friend. I wouldn't let farm animals stay here. Run as fast as you can.

The room felt like it hadn't been updated since the 1990s. There was hair in the tub and shower, and the carpet had stains that made me cringe wondering what they were. The owners were rude and very smelly. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Run somewhere else. I booked one night through Booking.com at an okay price. Their card machine declined my card three times, so I went to an ATM and paid cash. My card company later told me there was no problem on their end and said the motel's machine was likely at fault. I didn't mind paying cash, but then they wanted an extra fee for it. No way.

I gave the place a try despite the poor online reviews, and they were right. The outside looks quite nice, and the rooms seem okay at first, but the mattress pad and cover had deep, set-in stains. I couldn't see the mattress itself, and the sheets were stained too. The marks on the pad and cover looked like they could have been bodily fluids from previous renters. Someone said the bedding had been washed, but I think it should have been replaced. They suggested other rooms might be cleaner, but couldn't promise that. The breakfast room was dark when I checked to see if it was open or even lit. When I tried to work things out with the hotel yesterday morning, the woman at the desk wagged her finger at me and said they only refund a room within 15 minutes of being in it. I tried to speak politely, but she went into the back and avoided me, even after she came back out. I stayed in Lenior last night at the American Hotel. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone in Lenior. If they don't raise their standards, I don't think it should stay open. I recommend the Comfort Inn suites or the Hampton Inn instead, since I stayed at one of those last night.

We were here for two nights during Helene. I was glad to have power and cool air, but the place was so nasty I wouldn't let my family sit in the room's chair. The woman at the front desk was mean and rude. We booked the Hampton for the rest of our stay while our flooded home was being repaired. Wouldn't recommend this place at all.
