For short visits of 2-5 days, The Virden Center has everything my family needs, and the rates are reasonable. The buildings are a little ramshackle now, but the setting is wonderfully quiet and green. We see deer, foxes, swamp birds, and very few other people in the meadow. It's only about a mile from Route 1, which gets very busy in summer with people heading to the outlets. I've been staying here with my family several times a year for forty years as a faculty member at The University of Delaware. Through all that time, the staff at The Virden Center have treated us with informal, gracious affection and made our stays feel safe and comfortable.
