I came to town after my son died on Christmas, hoping to spend one last Christmas honoring him with friends and coworkers in The Colony. I’m disabled, recently had back surgery, and was already overwhelmed with grief. The accessible parking was at least 1,000 away from the door, and the man at the desk was unfriendly. I asked whether I could cancel without a penalty because of my back pain and because I’d be going places during my stay. Before answering, he started canceling the reservation. I hadn’t said I was canceling. At Marriott properties where I’ve stayed, accessible parking has been near the entrance. During check-in, he asked questions I’d already answered in the Bonvoy app. Then another man came from around a wall, became aggressive, and asked me to leave. I hadn’t raised my voice, used profanity, or called anyone names. I struggled to get the luggage and grocery trolley up the ramp and along the long hallway. I’m an older woman traveling alone, and nobody at the desk offered to help. I’d put my room requests in the app as a Marriott Bonvoy Member, but none were honored. When I called, they said they were short staffed for the holiday and I’d have to wait until tomorrow. I needed extra pillows for my back and to put under my legs to ease the pain and make me more comfortable. The only pan they gave me was scratched through the nonstick surface and rusted. I don’t recommend staying here. This isn’t the Marriott brand I’m used to.
We ended up paying more than the low rate suggested because of the service. They charged us $50 for an iron they said I stole, even though we changed rooms because the TV in the first one didn’t work, and I never saw or used an iron. The manager, Elvarosa, was no help and couldn’t show proof that it was in the room before I checked in. I hadn’t planned to complain, but there were also a couple of hairs on the shower floor. This place deserves zero stars.
The breakfast was good, and the staff looking after it were dedicated, which helped make the stay a positive one. The rooms were comfortable and reasonably priced. We did have a small problem with the room at check-in, but the front desk and general manager worked hard to sort it out. Good value if you’re watching your budget.
The room was at least clean, but it was full of worn, outdated fixes: a missing shower curtain liner, paint smudges that looked like handprints, carpet trim sticking past the door frame, rusty door hinges, mismatched paint on repaired patches, thin sheets, and barely filled pillows. Any one might have been tolerable, but all together it felt trashy. Getting checked in was a mess too. I arrived well after 4pm, waited about ten minutes in line while one credit reader was broken, and then was told my room wasn’t ready. I got in when I returned at 9pm, only to find kids running through the halls throwing ice from the machines at each other, with no parents or staff around. In the morning, someone with a key, housekeeping I hope, tried my door at 8:30am without knocking. The top doorstop I’d thankfully remembered to lock stopped them. After that, doors slammed up and down the hallway. The lobby smelled like dirty mop water. An overly sensitive automatic entrance door kept opening and closing when no one was nearby, and a light over the sundries beside the desk flickered. This place runs like a cheap motel, not a Marriott. As a silver elite member, even for a mid-tier hotel I expect better. I won’t be back, probably not to any Fairfield, and I’ll warn friends and colleagues.
My room was damp and musty, and the A/C only made noise. The parking lot looked like it had been hit by an asteroid. When I told the front desk at 7am that we were leaving a day early and asked them to tell the manager I wanted a refund, the attendant smirked and said I’d given notice too late. I moved to a better hotel in the same parking lot, where they were accommodating, and I left them a great review. Never again, Lewisville Fairfield. This place should lose its Marriott affiliation and become a trucker and transient stop.
