The Kancamagus Lodge

We booked a standard double through Expedia the same day for one night, and the room was super clean. It was mid-December, and I think they had turned the heat on for us ahead of time, which was great. The beds were comfortable, and the sheets and towels felt perfectly fresh. We had dinner at the attached restaurant; the menu was fairly limited, so I'd check first that there's something you like, but our food was delicious and the service was good. It's affordable, has great WiFi, and the location is great. I'll stay again.

The main problem for us was how clearly noise carried between rooms. We could hear conversations, doors, and regular movement at full volume. A loud group nearby made constant, room-shaking noise. Staff responded quickly when we called the after-hours number, but the walls are so thin that this could still seriously affect your stay. If you need quiet or are a light sleeper, keep that in mind. There are plenty of good points, too. The location is convenient on the main road, with food, coffee, and other things nearby. There's a bar and restaurant on site, though it's not hotel-owned, so you don't need to drive for that option. The pool is spacious and goes down to 9 feet. The rooms have a cute, homey feel, with distinctive decor and bathroom fixtures. Check-in was quick, and using actual keys instead of key cards was a charming old-school touch.

The pool was a warm, welcome feature after our ski days, and having a microwave available in the office was much appreciated. We had a wonderful stay, with friendly staff and a comfortable, clean room. It was perfect to come back to at the end of the day.

We stayed in room 17, and the road noise made it really hard to sleep. I could hear every car, truck, and SUV going by, and earplugs barely helped. I'm a light sleeper, so I wouldn't recommend this place to someone like me. The location is excellent for Loon Mountain and nearby restaurants. There's a bar with live music next door at Grateful Skier/Dead, Lincoln Cafe is great for breakfast, and Gordi's steak and seafood is right across the street.
