The room smelled strongly of damp, musty air as soon as I opened the door. It had a cellar-like smell that open windows and candles couldn’t get rid of. If you’re sensitive to mold, or just have a functioning nose, steer clear. There were spiders in corners, in the bathroom, and crawling on the ceiling over the bed. I killed three before I’d even unpacked. The carpet was stained and threadbare, and I’m pretty sure it was older than I am. The bed was lumpy, squeaky, and harder than the floor. Did I mention the spiders and bugs? Mount Battie Inn is being presented as a charming coastal getaway, but my experience was of an overpriced, outdated inn that badly needs renovation, pest control, and help with the musty smell. One star feels too generous. If that sort of decaying roadside inn is your thing, go ahead, but everyone else should book somewhere else.

The owners paid attention to comfort and cleanliness, and my room had a lovely view of the bay. We were traveling with family along the New England coast and found this beautiful inn in a picturesque setting. At 7pm, they brought warm banana bread and a muffin to our doors. Such a nice treat!

We were really disappointed. The rooms had a strong musty smell and lots of stains, and the bathroom was disgusting. Our interactions with the owners felt very strange, too. Despite the word “inn,” this is a badly aging roadside motel. If you only need somewhere to sleep while passing through, it might just about do. For a few days of relaxing and enjoying the area, I’d look elsewhere. I can’t understand the five-star reviews.

We were pleased with our stay at The Mount Battie Inn. We found the location handy for spending time in both Belfast and Camden, and Cellardoor Winery is nearby, which is a must do while you’re in the area. The room was very clean and the price seemed fair. The owners greeted us at check-in. “special Ed” was warm and friendly, and his wife was baking banana bread, which she said we’d get in the morning. We highly recommend staying here and will be back 😁.

We were so glad to find this quaint place while visiting this part of Maine. Ed & Christine were wonderful hosts and happy to suggest local spots to eat and visit. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the fresh baked pastries each day were a real treat.
