Belden House & Mews

We walked into town for restaurants, and the inn was close to all the places of interest. Our suite with a balcony felt like home, and the whole atmosphere was superb. The staff were warm, welcoming, and accommodating, with service above board. Belden House is a wonderful place to relax and restore your energy. I’d highly recommend it!

The location is good, within walking distance of shops and places to eat. The interior design and concept are lovely, and the food was fresh and thoughtfully seasonal. I loved my pasta, though some dishes were very salty, perhaps because different cooks prepare the burger, fries, and savory breakfast items. Our young server was professional and knew the menu well. He explained the dishes exceptionally thoroughly and shared valuable stories about them. We expected a quiet luxury experience like the Mayflower, but our time there was more enjoyable. Belden House could use a hospitality visionary to take the concept further and give guests more amenities and activities. There wasn’t much to do on the property, and it was very quiet. More events or curated activities would be welcome. Our suites had heated bathroom floors, which were lovely, and the pullout sofa was comfortable. For the room rate, I expected a mini fridge. On arrival, there was no valet to help with the bags, and we didn’t know where to get assistance. A woman came to help, and we felt bad that she was handling everything. Then Matt the butler came and carried it all by hand. He’s very friendly and personable, and I felt he was going above and beyond. The staff seemed to be trying their best, but needed more support and mentorship. Organization and management were lacking. We had to ask three times for the bill to be corrected because the offers and our planner’s Virtuoso credits hadn’t been applied. The program wasn’t showing the notes, then the staff member had to go to the manager, and we had to wait again. We shouldn’t have had to keep asking and waiting for the corrections. What we expected and what we experienced were two very different things.

I loved the bathhouse and had a completely private, excellent session in the sauna, steam room, and gym. The design and lighting throughout Belden House are lovely. My suite had double fireplaces and a proper desk, which made me feel like the luckiest gal. The restaurant is beautiful and cozy, with an inventive menu and very attentive waitstaff. For dinner, I’d recommend the endive salad with golden kiwi and macadamia, and the agnolotti with pistachio and Aleppo pepper. I loved the apple butter and pistachio toast at breakfast, along with a perfectly made cappuccino. I was welcomed with the warmest hospitality as soon as I arrived. It was a memorable stay, and I’ll absolutely be back. Locals should check out the bathhouse or restaurant and bar too.

The restaurant was fantastic, and our beautiful room had a wonderfully comfortable bed. I appreciated all the attention to detail throughout Belden House. We loved our stay and look forward to returning next time we’re in the area.
