The dining area was filthy, with dusty tables that looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned for quite some time. By 9am, breakfast was nearly gone even though it was served until 10am, and later guests couldn’t get food. Other guests also said their rooms had no working heat and that they needed space heaters. I’ve stayed in much nicer places without a $100 security deposit being held. I booked a king room for an event in the ballroom. Check-in was normal, but the room had only a Keurig, no mini fridge or microwave, which are pretty standard at hotels these days. My husband got about two minutes of hot water for his shower. After he turned it off briefly, the water came back ice cold. I called the front desk, explained the problem, and asked if we could shower in another room, perhaps on a lower floor since we were upstairs. They said no. Whoever was at the desk on Sunday 10/26 said they’d tell maintenance about the boiler, but couldn’t say when hot water would return. This could be a nice place if the owners invested in bringing it up to present-day standards.

The people I dealt with were dignified and professional, but communication needs work. Housekeeping walked into my room without warning because they thought I’d checked out. I was actually staying two more days. The hotel has taken over from another one and is dealing with renovation problems. The heating trouble was already known, since they had put a standing electric heater in my room before I arrived. If they sort those issues out and modernize a bit, the stars could go up easily.

The trouble started on our floor. The walls were beat up and the hallway smelled like smoke even though it was a nonsmoking area. In our room the headboard was torn and FILTHY, and the bathroom was cramped. It took about 10 minutes for the shower to heat up. During the night, a guest screamed in the hallway for hours, and nobody came to check what was going on. It disturbed other people and reflected badly on the hotel. Staff were kind when we checked in, and service was okay up to that point. This was our only stay, and I can’t recommend the place.

The shower drain was clogged, and the water came up to my ankles. That grossed me out. For the price, though, the room was good, and the lobby looked gorgeous. The staff were really friendly.
