Overton Motel Livingston

The woman who runs this place has a lovely old soul, and that’s what makes me recommend it to wanderers who just need somewhere for the night. If style and sophistication are what you’re after, this probably won’t be your jam.

For a cheap motel, the room was more comfortable than I expected. Ours looked like the pictures, had new mattresses, clean sheets and floors, a big wall TV, a decent-sized fridge, a microwave, two tables and chairs. I checked along the sides under the mattresses and saw no sign of bedbugs. Haven’t seen a roach either. We were in a nonsmoking room. The bathroom was small and outdated, but I wasn’t expecting luxury. The AC worked fine, and the price had tax but no hotel fees. I’m used to nicer hotels, usually at $120 a night plus fees and tax, but when traveling and out of options, this was comfortable enough. I’d recommend it to people passing through. The walls are thin, though, and we could hear the man next door snoring. I think the nonsmoking rooms are away from the street traffic. Maybe they put smokers in the poorer rooms since they’ll trash them anyway. The windows were the real problem. We tested them and could see in from outside, but couldn’t see out from inside. That felt creepy. We couldn’t see our car, while someone outside could see us. It’s not cool, and I’d like the owner to explain why they’re that way. I’d have given five stars otherwise, but I wouldn’t stay alone here. Livingston Lofts looks great and has affordable rates. I’ll stay there if I pass through again, because I’m concerned about the safety of these blacked-out windows and not being able to see the car in poor lighting.

The owner opened our motel room door for no reason. They also told us to keep our animals inside because they weren’t allowed to use the bathroom outside. Then they called us over and over at 9:30 in the morning, even though checkout wasn’t until 11:30.

I’d stay here again if I’m in the area. I was surprised by how nice the room looked inside. It’s probably an older motel, but the room was as nice as ones at a lot of more expensive places. I’d recommend it.
