Dabbs Hotel

The Dabbs is right in the middle of Llano, with an ideal spot for eating, drinking, and shopping. For a meal, try the Barrel House across the street. Llano is a relaxed little place outside the bustle of Fredericksburg, and the hotel sits right where you'd want to be. The Llano river and the falls are just off the back porch, a lovely backdrop for coffee or an adult beverage. It's a great little B&B with quaint, cute rooms, a fascinating history, and an amazing new owner. We'll be back with the whole family, and we're excited to make the 20 minute drive out to Enchanted Rock.

The hotel had a nice historic feel and was clean, but it hasn't been updated much since its earlier days. The soundproofing between rooms is especially poor, so it feels like staying in someone's home. You can hear everything other guests do, including things you'd rather not hear from a couple next door. If a good night's sleep matters, this isn't the place. We won't return.

I booked the Something Blue suite at the last minute after a disastrous stay in Austin, and was relieved to find somewhere safe and quiet. The suite was exactly as advertised, beautifully decorated, with a comfortable bed and gorgeous sunlight during the day. The whole property is stunning, and so is the town. Llano reminds me of Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girl, with its lovely shops around the town square, a gazebo, good food, wine, music, and coffee. There's history to explore too, including museums, old log cabins, and train stations. My service rating would be higher if the breakfast setup had been clearer. It's marketed as a "bed and breakfast," which made me expect a full morning meal, but there was no one there in the morning, just juice and yogurt set out. Maybe they do a full breakfast on weekends or for larger groups by request, but the website gave a different impression. I also texted with a parking question and got no reply. I eventually used a personal number and got a response a few hours later. Still, it was a lovely stay, and I appreciated the care and pride put into the property. I hope to return.

We were able to relax after eight hours on the road, and the hotel was comfortable and wonderful. But the breakfast we'd been promised and paid for never came. We were the only two guests staying, and Lynn never showed up or called or texted. We made coffee and waited, but Lynn was a no-show. I'm really disappointed. I won't stay again or recommend the B&B.
