Before heading to Mammoth, we explored the Alabama Hills. My family of four stayed here one night, and we'd come back to Portal Motel if we had the chance. Our annex room was spacious and clean, with comfortable king and queen beds, and it was quiet overnight. We walked to a nearby cafe for breakfast.

After finishing my JMT thru-hike, I stayed here for one night. The room was very clean and well maintained. If you're leaving Lone Pine on the ESTA bus, the stop is just a convenient few minutes away.

A small motel in really good shape, with a great view from outside the room. It's right behind Mt. Whitney on the eastern side. A little pricey, but that's California.👎

The check-in person did me a big favor, and I really appreciated it. I spent two nights exploring the east side of the Sierras, from Tahoe to Lone Pine. The room was clean and large, the bed very comfortable, and there were plenty of pillows. The location worked well for Whitney Portal, the Cottonwood areas, Alabama Hills, and Owens Valley. Groceries, eateries, and laundry are all walkable in town. I'd definitely stay again.

I stayed four nights at the Portal Motel in Lone Pine. It's a simple, nice, clean place, with clean rooms and fittings, and attentive, kind staff. Calling to reserve is better because the price is cheaper. Booking sites charge the owner 15% to 20% on their inflated price, and the staff can't access those bookings. Lone Pine is tiny, and the motel is near the center of town, several restaurants, and coffee shops.
