Inn at Diamond Cove

The old activity center is a must-see, with its wooden basketball court, pews for benches, retro video games, and two-lane bowling alley. We also loved exploring the converted military base, including some of its buildings and ruins, or biking around the grounds. The hotel felt magical, the rooms were spotless, nicely decorated, and ready before check-in, and the hosts and local residents were lovely. Jack helped with just about everything, from the bus and ferry arrangements to the desk, bar, cooking, and serving, and was always there when we needed him. The transport communication from the ferry pier through our return trip was great. We enjoyed the island food and drinks by the fire pit while the kids made s'mores. It was a peaceful, relaxing stay, and we wish our one night had been longer. We WILL be back.

That balcony was perfect for coffee and, honestly, some cute selfies. Our room was stunning, and the island was just as lovely, including a beach covered in sea glass. Everyone at the inn was incredibly kind and thoughtful, sharing lots of little tips to help us enjoy our time. We had s'mores with other guests one night, and really liked breakfast at the inn as well as the food and drinks at Diamond’s Edge. Jackie gave us impeccable service. After dinner, sitting in Adirondacks by the ocean with a drink was a highlight. Thanks to Chris and Mohammed for making our stay unforgettable.

We were about to board the ferry around 3:15, after check-in time, when a notification came through saying the hotel had oversold and our room was gone. We had driven five hours for my girlfriend's birthday, and there were no other rooms available at any Portland hotel. Since we'd taken public transit to get there, going home wasn't an option, so we wound up in a seedy Airbnb and the trip was ruined. They offered to pay for another hotel, but there weren't any available. We lost two hours going around asking other hotels about openings while waiting to board the ferry. Such a disappointing way to spend the day because of the Diamond Cove Inn's policy. Do NOT book here if you don't want to risk this happening to you.

We had four great nights here with our two kids, and there was plenty to keep every age busy: a pool, wooded paths leading to unusual beaches, s'mores, bowling, games, and basketball. The rooms are spacious with high ceilings and kitchenettes, which meant we didn't have to eat every meal out. When we did go to the restaurants, the food was delicious and the servers were so friendly. If you're after the full Maine experience, this is it. We can't wait to return.
