La Quinta by Wyndham I-20 Longview South

We booked 10 rooms for a family trip mainly because of the pool. It was freezing, covered in algae, and disgusting. The whole hotel was dirty and smelled like weed. Nobody was at the front desk when I went looking for help several times, including when I tried to ask about a discount. When the desk finally called back, they denied the algae despite our pictures and said they no longer claim the hot tub, calling it part of the pool instead. They refused any discount. They also rudely said they don't advertise a heated pool, even though their TripAdvisor listing pictures clearly say otherwise. There weren't any do not disturb signs either. On our last day, we found a long hair in the food. The waffle mix was out, so the only option was gravy with hair in it, and we had to spend more money at McDonalds. This place has failed on so many fronts that it needs new management. It's the worst hotel I've stayed at. Save your money, and don't try to comment on my review, you've failed at every metric.

Breakfast was a pleasant surprise for someone eating gluten-free: there were eggs, meat, coffee, and a little fruit juice. The hair dryer worked, and so did the bathtub drain plug. Still, this place felt odd and wasn't worth $100 a night or the La Quinta name. Check-in came with communication problems, including a confusing question about whether I wanted another card. The spa had no heat or bubbles, just a smaller pool, which the front desk admitted without explanation. The pool room had a key-card entry, but to get out you had to hit a big red emergency button. The door moved easily and was patched only at the top, yet pushing it, turning the handle, or turning the lock wouldn't open it. While I was in the bath, the front desk called about a leak from the tub overflow dripping down to them. They thought we'd let it overflow, but I hadn't. The bathroom mirror had softer lighting built in, but it was wired through the overhead light, so you couldn't use it without turning on the bright light too.

Our room was spacious and clean, though the vinyl plank floor needs replacing. The location wasn't great if you want to be near restaurants. The women at the front office were really friendly and made sure our stay went well, the service was excellent.

We checked out March 1st, and I was very disappointed. Roaches were in the room as soon as we arrived with family. We asked to move, but the roach problem still kept us from getting a good night's rest.
