El Rancho Motel

The staff are friendly, and the location is okay. I first stayed here in 2014 and loved it, but over time the rooms seemed less clean and the rates went up. On my last visit, in April 2018, my spouse killed three roaches. We decided then not to return, especially since we planned to travel with our son and didn’t feel the place was sanitary enough. The room was mostly comfortable.

The room itself was decent, and we wanted to stay, but the service was really rude. The front office guy kicked me and my boyfriend out twice without explaining why. The first time, I assumed it was because the next-door guests were loud, and since they were obviously Black, the staff treated us the same way and made us leave too. The second time, after a few days, we were told to leave even though on the phone they’d said we could stay for two or three weeks at a time. I feel like they’re racist, and there are roaches as well. I’m upset we couldn’t stay.

The room was clean when we arrived, and the receptionist was helpful about an early check-in and a late checkout because our flight was later. We did see some very small roaches and reported them. Staff said they’d deal with them as soon as possible. The area felt a little shady, though our rental car was safe in the lot for seven nights and we didn’t notice anything unsafe. The location is handy for many attractions in northern LA. The coffee maker was difficult to use, so we made coffee in the microwave.

I had a great little getaway here with my kids, and I’ll come back. It’s really clean for a motel in this area, the prices are good, and the staff are friendly and provide great service. Cable was great too. It’s kid-friendly, though there are showers only, no tubs.
