LA Royal Viking Apartments

The downside is the seven minute walk from the metro, which goes through a very rough area. I made that walk many times without incident, but definitely wouldn't take your kids along it. I think there's a bus from the metro to near the hotel. Once there, the rooms felt fresh and new, the bed was very comfortable, and the wifi was good. It was great value, one metro stop from the city center and much cheaper than other hotels I looked at. I'd happily stay again.

The door to the room was so loose it could be opened easily with a finger. This was the most awkward stay I had in the entire USA.

It was late at night when I got locked out, and the owner didn’t help me get back into my room. I ended up having to call a locksmith. The whole thing was ridiculous, and I won’t come back.

Mike, the owner, was really friendly, and the rooms are spacious, though they could use some work. It looked like renovations were underway in quite a few rooms. The location is the big draw: downtown LA and attractions are very close, with a bus stop right outside, and the price is reasonable. If you’re not expecting a five-star stay, I’d recommend it for the value.
