Palihotel Melrose

Being right by my favorite coffee spot made the location perfect. We had a lovely time and really liked the charming atmosphere. The bathroom, especially the bathtub, felt a bit old, but that didn't spoil our stay.

The staff were friendly and attentive, and the rooms were good, though not great. But the old property shows its age, especially in the very dated bathrooms, which have no counter space and no closet amenities. The centrally controlled A/C turned into heat two nights in a row, so I had to go down to reception at 1:30 am to tell them. On our last night there was no hot water, and we had to shower in a different room. The cafe closes around 3 or 4 pm, so there isn't a place for a coffee break later in the day.

The vintage look was fine, and the location puts you near plenty of things. Melrose is busy, though, so expect traffic noise. The water bottles and drinks in the fridge weren't complimentary. The A/C is centrally controlled, and you have to text a number to change the temperature. Both dressing gowns in our room were dirty. We asked for replacements, but those were stained too. The bathtub also drained badly, with water backing up instead of clearing.

The cafe food was excellent, and the front desk staff were pleasant and very helpful. We loved our stay, especially the comfortable beds.
