Parlour Motel

I booked three nights and arrived after a flight, but found a place where women working the streets were around every corner. Men in cars were catcalling them, then getting out to go into rooms with them. At one point police came and shone lights into everyone’s cars to check that no one was having sex. They didn’t seem to notice me looking lost and confused. I felt completely unsafe in that neighborhood. There was nobody at check-in. When I called, a woman said she had no reservation or room available. I gave her my receipt and confirmation numbers, but she shut me down. I lost $400 and had to scramble to find somewhere else to stay. Thankfully, I found a much safer place.

I needed a motel in a hurry because of a family emergency and a funeral, and planned to stay three days. My son got a fever, though, so I had to leave early. They don’t give refunds, which I understand. The neighborhood is pretty sketchy, but the parking was great since I could see my car, so I wasn’t too worried. It’s an ordinary motel, with a nicely upgraded bathroom. The owners are what make it a gem. They’re sweethearts and really try to make the place safe and comfortable. I took off a star because the carpet was dirty enough to leave my son’s and my feet dirty, so we kept our shoes on, which felt kind of gross. It was an okay stay.

I’ve stayed here twice, and the family is always nice and understanding. A couple of rooms have just been remodeled and look great. I like the rooms with kitchens. The beds are firm but comfortable. The bathrooms are nice, though with the AC on and the bathroom light on, it pulls all the cold air in, so be ready to get cold. There’s a fridge and microwave, plus an ice machine for chilling your drink, not putting ice in it. The location’s not bad, with Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, Burger King, and McDonalds up the street.

The neighborhood isn’t great, and the outside doesn’t make much of an impression, but the rooms are very clean and well kept. The staff are super friendly and helpful, and the parking lot gives you some sense of security that the surroundings don’t. For a motel, it’s actually better than a lot of LA hotels I’ve stayed in.
