Wilshire Motel

The rooms were cozy, clean, and well maintained, and the staff made check-in easy with their friendly help. The Wilshire Motel has an old-fashioned charm that’s hard to come by now. It’s also well placed for Santa Monica, UCLA, and local spots. A comfortable, affordable stay with a more personal feel than a big chain. I’ll come back.

We never actually stayed at the Wilshire Motel. We had booked a night for a business trip, but our pet sitter cancelled at the last minute, and the motel doesn’t take pets. We had to cancel at 4pm on check-in day. The staff were kind on the phone and suggested a nearby pet-friendly hotel. Even better, they made an exception and gave us a full refund, though we cancelled so late and they didn’t have to. That kind of kindness is rare. We saw the motel from outside while in the area, and saw a security guard helping a guest park. It looked cozy and protected, with cafes and grocery shopping nearby. The location would also have let us walk to our errands instead of dealing with LA traffic and parking.

I had a really good stay here. It’s a gated community with free parking, and my car felt safe there. The room was clean and organized, and the staff were welcoming, helpful, and easy to communicate with. There’s a front desk open 24 hours if you need anything. Thanks so much, and happy new year.

My friend had a terrible experience with the Friday night front desk woman after I recommended this place. She put him in the noisy room by the front even though other rooms were available. When he asked to switch, she told him, “you don’t have to stay here.” She was also difficult about his truck parking and spoke to him rudely and condescendingly, like he was a child. He’d driven all the way from Canada and was exhausted, so he endured it, but was deeply hurt afterward. We don’t know whether it was his skin color, size, age as a senior, or his Blue Jay shirt that bothered her. She did say, “I see you are a Blue Jay fan.” Front desk lady, please check yourself and treat customers with respect and kindness.
