Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Louisville Downtown

For a short Louisville visit, this is a good place for a night or two, and the price is nice. The location is ideal. We enjoyed the hot chocolate bar and tea, and breakfast was better than expected. Our room was clean, though the tub had stains and the carpet was worn. The bathroom is small, especially the sink counter, so I'm glad we brought hanging toiletry bags. They serviced the room when we asked and gave us plenty of towels and pillows. Sunny at the front desk was friendly and hospitable.

Bryce at the front desk was phenomenal. My girlfriend and I arrived around 10:30 p.m. after a snafu with Expedia, well past typical check-in time and having booked through a third-party site. Even so, he treated us kindly and made our stay start smoothly. We paid for seven nights at Marriot Fairfield but had to leave after two. The room was smaller than I expected for the price, and the bathroom quality was disappointing. There were raised, visible rust spots near the bathtub faucet, gouges and marks in the wallpaper that exposed bare drywall, and a strip at the carpet-to-tile transition that had risen through missing carpet. It was sharp, and both my girlfriend and I stepped on it more than once. Together, these problems made me feel unsafe because I worried about tetanus, so we moved to another Marriot up the road. The front desk offered to switch us to another room, but by then I'd decided to change hotels for the rest of the trip. Expedia gave me a partial refund for some of the original nights. I had to clearly explain my safety concerns to its representative before they could negotiate with the hotels and get the refund approved and returned to my account. The staff's willingness to try to find a solution was the one saving grace, but after that carpet edge by the bathroom tile, I was too worried about hidden hazards in any room they might have offered.

I’ve already decided this is one of my go-to places in Louisville. The staff were polite, genuinely attentive, and the most accommodating hotel team I’ve come across in a long time. I’ll absolutely stay here again when I’m in town.

Breakfast was pretty underwhelming, with little variety and so-so quality. It was available, but nothing special, and I’ll try another hotel next time. The location worked well for us. The government office was about a 10-minute walk away, and there were restaurants and gas stations on the block. Staff were friendly, check-in was easy, and getting onto the freeway was simple. Parking in the building cost $19, which seemed reasonable, especially since we could leave the car there until evening on checkout day. We checked out, put our bags in the car, took care of our business, then headed out. We didn’t use the pool, so I can’t comment on it. Our room was fairly quiet for downtown and mostly clean, though there was a strong musty smell when we arrived that I couldn’t identify. A few things could be improved: some tiles were moldy after a water leak, and we wondered if that might explain the odor. A toilet plunger was left on the hallway carpet, and our bathroom door creaked very loudly. A mini fridge with a freezer would also be a nice addition.
