Courtyard by Marriott Lubbock

The suite was clean, and check-in went smoothly thanks to the friendly front desk staff. The king bed was fine, but the sofa bed was closer to a twin than the usual queen-size pullout, so it was a tight fit for four of us. The elevator was out while we were there, which was inconvenient, though I understand that wasn’t the staff’s fault. Still a good stay, but families should keep the small sofa bed in mind.

I slept decently enough, but $170 didn’t feel like a good deal. The bed was comfortable and the lighting was good, though the A/C took ages to cool the room. In the bathroom, repairs from flooding on the 2nd floor were coming apart in the ceiling, the metal door frame was rusted through, and water was inside the emergency light lens. The coffee machine sprayed water from everywhere except the proper opening. Outside, the lot had several huge potholes, and a Lubbock PD mobile camera station was operating in the neighboring lot. I probably wouldn’t pay this price to stay again.

After two nights, I left more tired than when I got there. Other guests were loud, and I couldn’t tell if the thin walls and poor design were to blame or if people were just being rude. The dumpster pickup at 4AM Monday was the worst of it, with five minutes of banging and a backup alarm. The Courtyard feels dated; the lot was dirty and the parking lines were poorly painted. The balcony patio door wouldn’t open, and a warning said opening it would cost me $100. My stay wasn’t terrible, but I wouldn’t come back. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

My room was fine for the price, but I had a bad experience with the parking setup. I was traveling with a trailer and was told to leave it on the south side by the brick perimeter wall. Overnight, someone threw rocks at my truck and damaged the driver’s side window and door. I reported it to hotel staff and asked whether they had video surveillance, but they didn’t.
