Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Lubbock

The suites had plenty of space, and the pool area was especially nice. The hotel was very clean, with all the amenities I could think of. The shop was well stocked, and both the bar and breakfast areas were nice. Breakfast was much better than the usual free offering, and the attendant was a gem. Housekeeping deserves a mention too, they were courteous and clearly working hard. We’ll stay again when we’re back in Lubbock. Two things could be better: some outside key card readers didn’t work, and the front desk representative was borderline rude and not helpful in either of my two interactions. She had a strong cigarette smell that felt out of place, and she seemed not to like her job.

We feel welcome from the moment we arrive, with clean, fresh rooms for our students and staff and a friendly good morning at breakfast. When it’s time to go, we get a gracious goodbye and a see you soon. Our school district regularly books rooms for most of its sports teams, and the staff keep helping us adjust checkout dates and add or remove rooms smoothly. Diana is especially thoughtful and makes sure everything is handled with care. Thank you for consistently taking such good care of our district. We truly appreciate it.

I was at Hawthorne Suites for three weeks while moving from Alabama to Lubbock, so I had time to see how things were over a longer stay. The hotel stayed clean, and whenever I wanted room service I could get it. There were also times I needed to stay in the room and didn’t need service. Everyone on staff was friendly and professional. A third-party booking error meant I didn’t get the room I needed at first, but management moved Heaven and Earth to get me into the right one, which helped me manage each day. I didn’t use the pool, bar, or fitness room, so I can’t speak to those. Parking was confusing. There seemed to be a lot across from the entrance marked for a health clinic, and I didn’t use it. Otherwise, parking was limited and often meant a long walk, even from the back entrance when I felt comfortable using it. At times people gathered near that door or large vehicles were there, and I didn’t feel comfortable going in that way.

The rooms were spacious and very clean, but the towels were stiff, like drying off with 100 grit sandpaper. There was a ceiling vent in the bathroom, but we couldn’t hear it running or find a switch, so there was no ventilation. On our second day we left at 6:00 am for one of the local hospitals and got back at 4:00pm, after being out for ten hours, to find the room hadn’t been cleaned and no fresh towels had been left. Housekeeping knocked 20 minutes later to clean it. It wasn’t a deal breaker, but I thought they’d have done it while we were gone. The visit was so-so, not exceptional.
