Millsap Suites by Pioneer Pocket Hotel

We came across this little boutique hotel by accident, and what a gem. The room was roomy, comfortable, and well equipped, with a comfortable bed and linens plus more toiletries and towels than the big chains usually offer. The woman who helped us check in was polite and very helpful. We had rack of lamb and a wedge salad at the restaurant, and both were amazing. I'd definitely recommend it.

The room was clean, cool when I arrived in the middle of summer, and stocked with water, coffee, and a wide range of toiletries. The bed was comfortable, and even the most basic room was as good as anything I've had at pricier hotels around town. There was also a vending machine with drinks and snacks on the floor. Checkout was simple, too. I used to live in Lubbock and visit about once a year. I've stayed at lots of places, and Pioneer Pocket is still my favorite. The building has a restaurant, coffee shop, and convenience store, and check-in was straightforward, with clear instructions and texts beforehand to confirm details and share updates. Downtown is only one small part of Lubbock, and the city isn't very walkable, so I always recommend having a car to explore. Looking forward to coming back to Pioneer Pocket.

We never got to stay because the first interaction was handled so poorly. I called to ask about availability for an upcoming conference, but the woman who answered was dismissive and wouldn't let me explain what I needed. That was disappointing and suggests the facility needs better customer service training. As the first contact, her attitude shapes people's impression and can turn away potential guests. I've seen similar concerns in earlier reviews, which is troubling.

The biggest plus was having a top-notch restaurant and brewery in the same building. The staff at both were friendly and knew their stuff. We extended our stay by a night and got a discounted rate. The room was clean and nice, with a very comfortable king bed, a handy wine fridge and microwave, and a large bathroom with high-quality shampoo and conditioner. Our Vineyard room didn't have a downtown view, but that didn't bother us. There was no hotel manager on site, yet we had no trouble: check-in and checkout were simple, and questions were answered quickly by text. We recommend it for a quiet getaway.
