My Place Hotel - Lubbock, TX

After we’d driven over eight hours, tired and hungry, My Place Hotel canceled our rooms late at night and left our group with nowhere to stay. We’d booked well in advance and had confirmed the rooms that day. Thankfully we did find somewhere safe to sleep, but our loved ones were worried about our safety and where we’d end up, hours away from them. This put a group of young adults’ weekend at risk. The hotel’s one job is to provide a place to stay, and it failed at that. It canceled after confirming availability, apparently to make extra money on a game day. I was shocked they admitted it, though after dealing with the poor hospitality, not surprised. Like a toxic ex who cheats and then does it again, this hotel is unreliable. The staff were rude and customer service was poor. At the very least, they could have not confirmed our rooms that day, giving us time to make other plans. There wasn’t even that common decency. I hope this never happens to anyone else, and that the few extra dollars were worth ruining our weekend and risking our safety. If I could rate this below one star, I would. I can’t recommend people AVOID staying here strongly enough.

After driving 9 hours, we arrived that night to find our rooms canceled because of a card issue. My brother had booked several weeks earlier, then called the manager at 3pm on check-in day. The manager assured him our rooms were secure and that we could pay when we arrived, just hours before we got there. I might understand the cancellation otherwise, but that assurance clearly wasn’t true. The front desk agent said the manager canceled the rooms after Vicky, who works at the corporate level, demanded they be canceled so they could be resold at a higher price. It was an expensive weekend in Lubbock because of college gameday, and I have no doubt this was to collect more money after room rates skyrocketed, even though we booked well before that. Vicky, shame on you. There’s no integrity in screwing people over for a few hundred more dollars. We had to spend hundreds more to find another room and got no compensation or discount on a future stay. I wouldn’t stay here after this experience. I was shocked they made no effort to take responsibility or make things right. The company clearly lacks competent leadership, and VICKY’s actions and the way this was handled show My Place Hotel has no reputation to uphold. It was the single worst hospitality experience of my life. We did stay at Homewood Suites by Hilton, and they were wonderful. I’ll definitely have our friends and family stay there in the future to avoid anything like this happening again.

We felt safe and had plenty of parking, and the mini kitchen with its full-size fridge and stovetop was a nice extra. The room was clean and did what we needed, though it felt dated, almost like a dorm, and noise came through the thin walls from upstairs while we were trying to sleep. There weren't many choices in town for the football game, so we paid $254 for a double. That's a bit steep for a two-star hotel.

This has turned into our regular Lubbock stop. The rooms are basic and clean, parking is plentiful, and check-in and checkout are quick. It's a good price, with shopping and restaurants only a few clicks away. There's no breakfast service, though for $7.50 you can have a quick breakfast item delivered to your room. The snack room takes credit cards if you get hungry later.
