Vindel Motel

Management was really friendly and helpful. The cozy little rooms were very clean and had the amenities you'd find in a larger room, including a bigger mini fridge and a microwave. There's cable TV, with streaming available if you already subscribe to those services. Ours was on the ground floor, with parking right outside the door. The pool was closed because of storm damage, which was a bummer, but the lake wasn't too far away. I'd definitely stay again.

I paid for a room, but when I arrived the office was closed and I had nothing else. A sign on the door said I should have received an email with the door information and passcode, and gave a number to call for help. I called four times, sent a text, and emailed. The business never responded. I'm contacting the Better Business Bureau. I ended up sleeping out in the cold with my baby.

This was a clean, quiet place and good value. It's one of the few independent motels in mackinaw city. Most downtown places are owned by the same family, and their service and cleanliness aren't the best. If you want lots of amenities and a full hotel experience, this isn't for you. But if you need a clean, cool room with the basics and easy access, it works well. We could park right outside our room, which made loading and unloading suitcases easy. We visit upper Michigan every year and plan to come back. The only reason I gave it four stars was a rough first morning. Housekeeping woke us three times to say checkout was at 10, even after opening the door while we were asleep and being told we had booked four nights. The booking had an error in their computer after we added an extra day. They apologized, but after driving 10 hours, that was a terrible way to wake up. There weren't any other issues, and we'll return. Hopefully next time it'll be five stars.

The bed and pillows were wonderful, and the room was clean, though it smelled musty. I arrived around 10:30 pm, but there was no check-in. The TV kept blinking off as if it were buffering. I called the office, got an answering machine, and left a message. Nobody called me back. With no communication, I won't return. Not having a working TV sucks.
