Americas Best Value Inn Macomb

For the price, I was happy with the stay, and I’d come back to Macomb. I’d read the reviews and felt a bit unsure beforehand, but the friendly, funny attendant quickly put me at ease. The room looked dated, though the bedding was clean, the shower had great temperature and pressure, and having a microwave was handy. I’d bring my own towels since the ones there were thin and looked well used, and I wouldn’t count on breakfast. I’ve paid more for much worse.

The man at the desk was nice, but I can’t recommend this place, and I won’t stay again. As an experienced international traveler, I’d say it was probably the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. The room was cold despite the heater, which couldn’t warm it up while it was cold outside. The bedding was old and filthy, especially the pillows, and dust had gathered everywhere, even hanging from the popcorn ceiling. The room was dated and dirty, the bathroom had toothpaste splattered around, and the non-smoking room reeked of stale smoke. The cable didn’t work, so there was no TV, and there wasn’t a coffee maker, which matters a lot to me. That was just what stood out during our one night there.

My husband eventually slept in the car because he couldn’t take the smoke smell in the hotel anymore. I hadn’t realized it would be that bad. The room was awful: the toilet had a black ring, and the pillows were stained black and disgusting. We asked to switch rooms after finding old, unmade sheets covered in hair and dirt. The man at the front desk was very friendly and did everything he could to help, which I appreciated, but the place itself was in terrible shape. Don’t bring kids here. Maybe it could work for one person who just needs somewhere to lie down for the night, but don’t expect cleanliness.

We ended up finding another place, and I wouldn’t spend money here. We’d booked two weeks ahead, but at check-in the man seemed confused and said we had no reservation. I assured him we did, and he said he happened to have a couple of rooms available. The first one smelled horrible and had a disgusting bathroom, so we said no. The other room was freezing, with stains on both the bed and carpet. The whole property was very outdated. There are better hotels in the area.
