For the roughly $125 I paid for one night, this hotel was okay. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, but the place felt a bit out of the way. Ubers to the city center were about $20, though having a car would be ideal. As a guy in my mid-20s, I’d probably choose somewhere closer to the city or quieter. There were some small room issues. I found a strange red, pinhead-sized stain on one pillowcase, but checked the rest of the bedding carefully and saw no other problems or signs of pests. The room looked dated, from the popcorn ceiling to the shower’s bit of lime scale and a diverter valve that took some fiddling. Water pressure and temperature were great, though. Breakfast had a decent selection, but the dining area was a bit of a zoo with lots of families and young kids. Around 9 PM, there seemed to be kids doing something in the hall. I couldn’t hear them, but their mother screamed at them all the way down the corridor instead of walking over to get them. That wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but it did give me a sense of the clientele.

We’ll definitely come back. The price was great, the room was really clean, breakfast was yummy, and the staff were nice. Online check-in and check-out helped a lot since we arrived late at night. The pool and hot tub looked clean, though we didn’t use them.

We come to Madison often and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. There’s a huge range of shopping and restaurants very close by. The buffet has a nice selection, and the staff responded to what we needed. The pool and fitness room are both small, but available. It was quiet while we were there, and we didn’t notice traffic noise from nearby streets.

The daily happy hour in a converted ground-floor hotel room was a fun touch. They had free nachos and popcorn, self-serve Spotted Cow and Miller Lite on tap, plus carafes of wine. It was a nice chance to meet other travelers and have a snack. Breakfast was one of the most complete setups I’ve seen at a budget hotel: eggs, potatoes, breakfast meat, waffles, bagels, toast, oatmeal, fresh fruit, cereal, milk, and juice. Coffee was available at the front desk around the clock. Our reservation couldn’t be found when we arrived, even though I had the confirmation email. Manager Martez matched the rate I’d booked and even beat it slightly, so it wasn’t a problem. He was often at the desk when I walked by and always said hello. He runs a great operation. The room was clean and practical, with lots of outlets for charging devices. The mattress was thin and sat on a spring platform without a box spring, so it wasn’t spectacular, but we slept decently. Rooms and halls had clearly been remodeled recently and were clean and in good repair. I even saw a housekeeper dusting above the closet in an open room, which showed nice attention to detail. The hotel isn’t new, but it’s well maintained. It seems to have been a Hampton Inn before becoming an AmericInn, and has been well looked after for years. The pool and hot tub were in good shape and had plenty of towels. I appreciated that the pool area stayed open until midnight and was adults-only after 10 PM. There’s also a small fitness center and an outdoor patio with seating and a gas grill for guests. It’s on the west edge of town, near restaurants, businesses, and a surprisingly busy shopping mall. Parking is free in the surface lot around the hotel, shared with a restaurant across the lot. A weekend Lyft to or from downtown Madison was about $17 each way. We had a very good stay and would come back.

I’m here many times a year for work, and it’s always a pleasant stay. The rooms are consistently clean, the front desk staff are great, and breakfast is amazing. The daily happy hour is especially nice after a long day. This is hands down the best Wyndham property in Dane County, and probably the nicest in the Midwest. I’ve been a Diamond member for years.
