The room was so cold that we left the same evening without staying overnight. The thermostat read in the mid-70s, but with temperatures around 7°F outside, cold air was blowing from the vent. Staff said it was because of the weather instead of looking into a possible HVAC problem. We didn’t use the room, and the bed was untouched. At check-in, I asked about suites and was told none were available. Later, a staff member identified as the General Manager said we’d been “upgraded to a two-queen suite.” Moxy Madison Downtown at the Capitol doesn’t have that room type. It was a larger standard two-queen room, so the description caused confusion and hurt my trust. They mentioned upgrade policies without clearly explaining or documenting them, didn’t acknowledge my elite status, and didn’t offer a paid upgrade at the time. I’ve been a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member for nearly 30 years and travel with Marriott around the world. I generally get service in line with the brand’s standards, but this stay on January 27, 2026 had a string of service, communication, and operational problems. Management later replied in writing and awarded points, which I appreciated, but parts of their response didn’t match what happened, including when we raised the temperature issue and how staff handled it. Our folio first showed checkout the next day, even though we left that evening. They corrected it after we asked. The modern design and convenient downtown location were positives. The communication, room description, management response, inconsistent records, and customer service were not. I’m sharing this for transparency, not retaliation. Longtime loyalty deserves clarity, accountability, and consistency. I hope the property and its management company improve their service and internal communication.

Parking took a bit of effort, though that's typical downtown. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the room was really nice. I was in Madison, Wisconsin for one night to see a concert at the venue right next door, and the downtown Moxy worked perfectly. I had a great stay and would probably book here again next time I’m in town.

The lobby and bar had a fun feel, with games and a big fireplace, and I’d come back if I’m in the area again. We were here for a concert at The Sylvee, which is right nearby. Our double queen room had a quirky setup: each bed had its own separated area and TV, with the bathroom between them. The beds were a little firmer than I like, but still comfortable. There’s no closet, just wall hooks and hangers.

I loved the look, music, and decor, and it was gorgeous and clean. Parking was easy, the location was great, and the price was good. The style is clearly aimed at Gen Z and Millennials, so if you’re outside those generations, you might find it a little cringe. I’d happily stay here whenever I’m in Madison.

For over $300 a night, I expected basic comfort, but there was no breakfast, usable workspace, pool, or other amenity to make the price feel worthwhile. Parking was another gouge: $30 a day at a public garage if you walk, or $35 plus tips for valet. The dim lighting, concrete ceilings, and cramped layout may be meant to look modern, but the place felt uncomfortable and impractical. Nearby hotels at the same or lower rates offer more comfort, transparency, and basic function. I wouldn’t return under any circumstances. I booked by phone expecting a king bed, but what I found was clearly smaller than a standard American king and so firm it was uncomfortable. Only after I raised it in a review on Marriott’s website did staff explain it was a “European-style king.” They should have said that before I booked. The room also had no blackout curtains, and a bright exterior light shone into the window all night, so I couldn’t get good sleep. It was stiflingly hot, and the centrally controlled thermostat wouldn’t let me cool the room. I don’t need luxury from a hotel, just a comfortable bed, a quiet room, and basic functionality. This missed nearly every mark.
