The cabin was mediocre at best, and the property felt run-down and in disrepair. There was a dumpster and heavy equipment, with people moving rocks in the stream at odd hours. Strange people kept driving in and out, and noise carried on late in the evening. The location is convenient, and being right on the water was nice.
With seven of us in a three-bed cabin, nobody slept well, and we were all awake around 1:30 a.m. One person also woke up with something on a blanket that looked like dried vomit, at least we hoped that was what it was. The office smelled of cigarette smoke when we arrived, and I later realized the washers and dryers were there too. The linens and towels were kept around that smoke and smelled of it in the rooms. I picked this place because it was listed among the local ski resort’s lodging partners. Apart from some places I slept while deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, this was probably the worst place I’ve stayed, and I paid for it.
We spent our first anniversary in 2016 at the honeymoon cabin at Creekwood Village Resort in Maggie Valley, NC. The cabin was cozy, clean and romantic, with beautiful views, and the staff were friendly and helpful. On our first day the air conditioner stopped working. They came quickly to try to repair it, and when they couldn’t fix it then, they brought one from their own home for us to use.
The little pond behind the cabins was lovely, and the location felt great. We booked two cabins after another resort’s owner mentioned this place, and check-in was quick. But the linens had a strong cigarette smell from being stored in a closet in the main office, where the nicotine odor was overwhelming. The kitchens were missing basics like spoons, forks, plates and cooking utensils. We enjoyed the trip, though the owner/operator should improve the conditions and update some cabin essentials. I wouldn’t rent from them again.
The people were nice, and it was a clean, quiet little place, but it needs updating. The beds and furniture weren’t comfortable, and the kitchen wasn’t fully equipped. We wanted to cook during our getaway, but the old pots and pans made everything stick. We managed, but for what we paid, I expected somewhere comfortable to sleep and relax on the couch.
