Cocca's Motel - Malta

It was $130 a night, and when you’re on the lam you don’t have much choice, even knowing it’s a dump. I opened the door and found a raccoon in the shower. They moved me to another room, then at 2:45 a.m. while I was asleep, a 3-by-4-foot piece of sheetrock fell from the ceiling onto my face and chest. I needed two stitches at the hospital. I came back expecting the owner to pay the bill, and instead got hot, scalding coffee thrown in my face. They claimed I’d jumped in the bed. Now I’m a pizza-faced guy for life.

The room was filthy and smelled musty, with a cigarette smell too. Mold covered the bathroom, the blankets had burn holes and stains, and the sink sprayed water everywhere. The toilet was the cleanest thing in the room.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The place was dirty, and the rooms are overpriced for their condition. I just got out of the hospital after being bitten by bed bugs. If you care about yourself, don’t stay here.

The receptionist was nice, and the place was fairly clean, but it’s very old and has a stale tobacco smell. The furnace, AC, and bathroom are all old too. $90 would feel fair, compared with the $150 they actually charge.
