Twin Oaks Motel

This was the worst motel I've ever stayed in. The bathroom was disgusting, there was hair in the microwave, the sheets had holes, and the room smelled like weed. The beds felt like plywood, and my dog was barking and anxious. I didn't stay the whole night. The location felt highly dangerous to me. Having to call someone for help with the television was alarming. It may be near Six Flags and Belmar Beach, but it wasn't worth it. I expect to pay a price that gives me a comfortable stay, and I wasn't satisfied.

I only needed a place to shower and sleep while passing through. The price was fair, and the room was a little dated but clean and in good shape. It's pet friendly, though guests are supposed to keep their pets well behaved. The people next door left at 5:45am and their unattended dog barked from then on, so I didn't get the sleep I wanted.

Everything we needed was there, including a refrigerator and microwave that were both very clean. The beds and pillows were comfy, and I felt comfortable bringing my dog. It seems like most rooms had a dog, and I'd recommend the motel to anyone traveling with one. It's not fancy, but it was completely clean. The people at the front desk were pleasant and accommodating, the price was reasonable, and nearby food places could deliver to the room. With doors opening to the outside, it worked perfectly for our night. I'd stay again.

I booked months ahead and paid extra for cancellation insurance because I wanted the option to cancel. When I couldn't make the trip, I canceled expecting the coverage to apply, but the hotel still charged me for the room. I called to sort it out and was treated very poorly. Staff told me to “learn how to read,” said I was yelling when I was calm, and hung up on me twice. When I asked for a manager or someone else, they said there was nobody higher and refused to connect me. The hotel had already rebooked the canceled room, so they kept my payment and also resold it. That felt completely unfair and unprofessional. The rudeness and refusal to resolve the issue were shocking. I won't book here again, and I hope management and corporate take a serious look at how guests are treated.
