Shops and restaurants are only a few steps away, and the lakefront setting is gorgeous. The place itself was cozy, quaint, and really comfortable. Our hosts made us feel at home with warm hospitality and helpful communication from the minute we arrived. Peaceful but convenient, exactly what we wanted for a memorable getaway.

Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast is our pick on the Northshore. It’s close to the lakefront, restaurants, and bike trails, and the location makes it easy to get around. They made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. We’d happily recommend it and plan to come back.

The room was cute, clean, and nicely furnished, with a microwave, a refrigerator and freezer, dishes, oatmeal, milk, and bottled water. It’s also handy for the bike trail, lake, and restaurants. But we stayed three nights and the problems outweighed those positives. Communication started badly: we only got a text with the door code, and it came after check-in time. Smoke and odors from the restaurant kitchen exhaust next door made the porch almost unusable. One afternoon the host also burned yard waste, leaving the property full of smoke. The mattress was worn and uncomfortable, and dishes taken away each day weren’t replaced, so the extras weren’t much use. We didn’t feel welcome, and I wouldn’t return or recommend it.

We stayed at the Blue Heron while in Mandeville for our nephew’s wedding. The room was comfortable and very clean, and getting to the church and reception only took minutes. The lake, shops, and restaurants were all close enough to walk to. I’d stay there again and recommend it to others.

We’ll definitely be back. The porch was lovely to sit on, and there was a fire pit for cooler evenings. Restaurants, coffee shops, the lake, and plenty of other things to do are within walking distance. There’s a cute ice cream shop across the street and great restaurants right next door. The furnishings are unique, and the place is quaint with everything you need and then some.
