Avenue Hotel Bed & Breakfast

We had a great few days here in May 2018, staying in the Pawnee room. The hosts were kind, knowledgeable, and willing to help with requests. There are lots of outdoor spots to sit and enjoy the mountain air. On our last evening, a local band played on the library lawn next door, and we watched from the porch while the hosts shared beer and wine with guests. Breakfast was delicious, served on the front porch in good weather, with an indoor dining room available when it's cold. Shops in Manitou Springs are right outside, and attractions around Colorado Springs are a short drive away. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and the room was lovely. Its drawback was the detached private bathroom, which had a tiny cast iron tub and shower with curtains, so there wasn't much room to use it. Everything else was wonderful.

Breakfast was delicious on both mornings, and sitting outdoors made for a relaxing start to the day. Our Canon Room was beautiful, with a cozy king bed, a spacious bathroom, and a separate sitting room whose large window looked out over the mountains and Manitou. The landscaping was the first thing we admired. A friendly woman showed us to the room and explained where everything was. We had the romantic package, too, with Merlot, a platter of cheese, fruit and crackers, plus candles and rose petals around the room. It made the stay feel extra special.

The house and its surroundings are beautiful, and you can walk to just about everything. My husband and I booked a room on the spur of the moment for a much-needed getaway. The room had a musty smell, a constantly leaking bathtub, and a very loud air conditioner. Earplugs were on the nightstand, and the noise was obvious. There wasn't a blue ray player, either, so only some movies worked. Breakfast was decent, but the host's manners put us off. We were the first to arrive and chose where to sit, then he asked us to move to make room for married couples. We are married and were wearing our rings. We didn't want to make a scene, so we just moved, but it left us uncomfortable. We won't return or recommend the place.

We always book the upper carriage house when we come back to Avenue hotel bed and breakfast. The loft is lovely, the shower head is AMAZING, and the location puts you right by downtown. Gwenn and Randy are welcoming and make sure our needs are taken care of. They respect our privacy completely, and even when it was chilly, we could still relax in the comfortable hot tub. The gourmet breakfast is delicious, and it's been a great place for my husband and me to get a vacation away from the kids. We leave already talking about the next trip. See you this summer.
