The room was noisy all night. It sat at ground level with windows facing the street and almost no soundproofing, so I could hear people outside, trains, cars, and guests in nearby rooms. Other guests' doors made mine shift and rattle whenever they opened or closed, which was unsettling. I was also left without the basics I expected for the price: the cement floors were freezing and there were no slippers. The stove in the small kitchen didn't work either. Since most restaurants in town were closed, I'd spent more than $70 on groceries specifically to cook there. Customer support gave me generic replies, said they'd check with the owner, and never followed up. I was extremely disappointed to pay $500 for one night in a single room. It was advertised as a boutique hotel, and the website and booking process looked like a hotel reservation. Only the day before check-in did an email with house rules and instructions make it clear that this was essentially an Airbnb-style rental. The rules included a 10 AM checkout, taking out trash, putting used towels in a particular place, washing dishes, and leaving the room as clean as I found it. If that had been clear from the start, I wouldn't have booked such an expensive stay. There was no staff when I arrived, just self check-in, which reinforced that it wasn't a real hotel experience. For the price, this was one of my worst stays. The misleading presentation, lack of communication, broken amenity, and awful sleep made for a deeply frustrating night.

We stayed in motel #4 and loved having the end unit. The place felt quirky, homey, and welcoming, and it was perfect for our quick stop on the way to Big Bend. We wished we'd booked a second night. You won't regret it!

Custom light fixtures, petrified benches, hot plates, and bolsters I didn't know I needed all feel thoughtfully placed. The design is intimate but scaled just right, with so much attention to craft that I kept noticing new details. At times it felt like walking onto the set of a movie I should've seen years ago. If you've never entered a hotel room and immediately felt the energy of the space, this is your moment. The whole design concept is top notch.

We had a lovely two-night stay in suite 1. It's a cool, unique spot with a clean room and a great location. We'll be back!

The service, design, soundtrack, and welcome gifts all show the care that goes into this place. I can't think of anywhere I've stayed with better attention to detail. The experience is consistently comfortable and memorable, and the price is reasonable. I highly recommend it, especially over traditional Airbnbs or big chain hotels. Motel quickly became my first choice in Marfa. It's a beautiful renovation that still has its soul, and each room feels distinct, comfortable, and useful. The amenities could stand on their own: I love the sauna and cold plunge each morning, the courtyard is great for reading and stargazing, and having laundry is so convenient. The staff seem almost magical. The grounds are perfectly kept and frequently sanitized, but I've never seen or heard the cleaning crew. Even the gravel is carefully raked, with footprints erased and neat lines left behind, adding to the calm, almost unreal atmosphere. I also appreciate what staying here means for the town. Like many small artsy places, Marfa's housing market has been hit hard by people flipping local homes for Airbnb and VRBO rentals, driving up costs for locals. I'd rather spend my money at a place like Motel Marfa, which creates a thoughtful stay for visitors. Thanks to everyone who built and maintains this property. I can't wait to come back.
