Marina Dunes beach is a good place to watch for whales from shore if you get lucky, and Carmel makes a nice stop with a fine beach for a family day out. The resort itself sits on Monterey Bay in Marina, California, and has a separate restaurant on the property with an oyster bar. There’s plenty to explore nearby: Fishermans Wharf and Monterey Bay Aquarium are close, and Cannery Row is a fun walk with eateries and small tourist shops. Go farther along Lighthouse Avenue and you’ll reach Pacific Grove, which has lots of shopping and dining. The whole area is rich in history and worth visiting with the family. Spring and winter weather can be odd, shifting from cold to colder with patches of sunshine. Hearst Castle is also within driving distance if castles appeal to you, though entrance is pricey. A great family vacation area.

The beach bonfire was awesome, though it was a little windy. We needed extra supplies, and they were at our door within 10 minutes. When we needed help getting into the pool, the maintenance guy stopped his ATV and came over to show us how to open the gate.

I called the front desk with three requests: the mattress was way too soft, I needed a rubber shower mat so I wouldn’t slip and fall, and as a dinosaur I had no idea how to play a CD. Charlie showed up within five minutes with a replacement mattress and the mat, then walked me through using the two remotes to play the CD in the DVD player and hear it through the TV. Yowsa, Yowsa, YOWSA!!!

The ocean is just steps from the units, and there’s plenty of fun nearby. The places are great, and I also had a beautiful pool and hot tub area.

We spent seven days here with the family and had a nice ocean view. We could watch people paragliding along the beach, and the rooms were great, with all the comforts of home and everything you’d need to cook meals. It felt better than a hotel. The dishwashers could use an upgrade, although they did the job. Staff were ready to handle any issue, and the bonfires were a nice amenity. Get there early if you want a chair. We’d stay here again.
