Independence Stay Hotel & Suites

The staff were so supportive of our hockey family. They let us gather in the conference room Saturday evening, then use the leftovers there again Sunday morning before our game, and provided cleaning supplies with smiles even as our big groups spread across the first floor. We were in town for a tournament at the Marinette Rec Center, just minutes away, and the hotel was also close to lots of other things we needed that weekend. Huge thanks to everyone for accommodating our team meal twice!

We booked a room for the hot tub, but it didn't work, so we left without staying. They kept our money and blamed the problem on the other amenities working. We paid for the hot tub! This feels like a pattern, judging by the other reviews. Please read them before booking. I'd give negative stars if I could.

We booked for early October, then canceled the next day. My wife got a message saying the room was canceled and our $175 would go back to our credit card, but the charge was still there on our statement later that month. We were sent to Hotels.com to raise the issue, since Independence Stay Hotel and Suites wouldn't hear our concerns directly. In the end, Indepence Stay had Hotels com tell us we wouldn't get the refund. Promising by email to return people's hard-earned money, then keeping it for a service you don't provide, is very shady. I'd choose somewhere else, a place that operates with integrity. Independence Stay doesn't. Stay clear of this place!

They even let us use the breakfast area for a team pizza party, but then abruptly made us leave, so our group ended up spending time in the hallways. Our youth hockey team came for a local tournament, and I know teams can get unruly sometimes, but the response here was way over the top. At about 8:30 p.m., as soon as I came in to check in, the night staff were already yelling at kids and parents for being loud. We had to sign several documents agreeing to strict rules or face removal, and the rules made the place feel more like a prison than a hotel. Staff seemed to intimidate guests and treated adults as if they were looking for a confrontation, even when just asking them to comply with requests. We couldn't keep our players' composite sticks, which cost hundreds of dollars, in our rooms for safekeeping, and we weren't allowed a simple bag of chips at a table near the pool. The owners should hire people who communicate better and act more professionally and approachably. We won't bring our teams here again.
