Best Western Plus High Country Inn

The path behind the property made this stop feel special, and the dog park was a big hit with my pup, who got to spend time with other dogs. My kids liked the pool, though it felt too cold to me. Breakfast was average, and I loved the location and the little extras. My only real frustration was the thin walls. I usually sleep through anything, but at 2 a.m. the neighbors talking woke me up. I could hear doors, showers, pretty much everything. Lol.

The second room smelled much better than the first, which had such a strong bleach odor that we had to move. But its bathroom was in terrible shape. The tub squealed whenever the shower ran and wouldn't drain, so I stood in a couple inches of water. The toilet rocked, the fan was really gross, and the toilet paper holder was pulling out of the wall. The corners of the room were dirty, too. The ice bucket looked like it hadn't been used in ages, and the counter corner underneath it looked like nobody had wiped it in weeks.

The dog run was my favorite part. It has separate big and small dog areas, and we felt like our pets were truly welcome. The room was clean, with hardwood floors, hot water, four coffee pods, and a neat cabinet for the fridge and microwave. The fireplace inside and the patio outside were cozy, too. There was a strong laundry detergent smell that stayed overwhelming all night, even though it wasn't a bad smell. I traveled with two dogs and a cat. They hadn't hosted a cat before, so they checked the policy, and it was fine. The reservation staff and front desk were nice. But when I called, I asked about breakfast so we could plan our early departure, and they told me 6 a.m. After packing the truck, we found the door locked and a sign saying 6:30. When I explained what I'd been told, the guy just pointed at the sign and walked off. I let the desk know the wrong time matters to travelers and hope they'll correct it. Otherwise, it was a really nice stay.

We were staying here while my father was in the hospital, and I brought ESA animals for my disabled husband. They charged us a $280 cleaning fee. I've stayed at other properties where those fees were waived for service animals. I spoke with Jessica, who told Best Western customer service she was the General Manager, but she isn't. We were treated so rudely that I won't stay here again, or at any Best Western. I'm appalled that they don't honor service animals under ESA protection.
