Best Western Martinsville Inn

The staff were genuinely friendly, and that was the one good part of our stay. Our first room smelled bad, and since the hotel was sold out, we couldn't switch that night. They moved us to another room for night two. It was better, though it still didn't smell fresh. We were told the carpet cleaners had left too much moisture behind. If the carpets smell that bad, replacing them might be a good idea.

The room smelled strongly of mildew as soon as we walked in, and the sheets felt damp when I lay down. I had a cold and flu and just wanted to rest, so I asked the desk clerk if anything could be done about the smell and wet sheets. She said no. I tried air freshener from my car, but it didn't help. When my daughter arrived after work, she felt we should have left and asked for our money back. With the temperatures as they were, I needed the rest, so we stayed. I had thought I'd booked a room because the Holiday Inn had no availability for two nights, but it turned out my reservation was for sometime in September and apparently couldn't be refunded. The woman said the only room open was a suite with a whirlpool tub or something like that. We left around 10 AM, before the 11:30 checkout, after a man they said was housekeeping tried to open our door at 9:45. That didn't seem normal. I told the young woman at the desk what I thought after that and left my name and number because she said the manager would contact me. I've heard nothing, and still know nothing about a refund. Holiday Inn was a much better option, clean, cheaper, and with a pool.

The manager helped sort out a booking problem and even got my money refunded. The staff were very helpful, and I really liked the breakfast.

For the price, this was a great stay. Breakfast was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the room was clean.
