Budget Inn Toledo Maumee

Our company’s staff stayed here the weekend of May 25, 2018, and the place was a dump. The rooms were disgracefully dirty, with bugs. Two employees slept in their car because of the conditions inside. The bathroom floor was slimy, the tubs rusty, the lampshades cracked, and the beds and linens disgusting. It might look good online, but it’s nowhere close in person. I’d rate it minus 10, not 2.5. Stay away.

The room service was terrible. I had to ask them to clean my room, and I found a condom hidden in the sheets on the bed. Just nasty. The woman at reception had a mean attitude, too. I know it isn’t a five-star hotel, but they really need to improve their customer service. They seem to want your money without caring whether customers are satisfied. Money hungry, I’d say.

For $36 a night, we went in with low expectations after seeing mixed reviews, and I was braced for smells, bugs, and stains. Room 101 was better than I expected. The hardwood floors were a plus for me since you never know what’s in carpet, there was no smoke or other odor, and we found no bugs or stains on the bed. The blankets smelled clean. I brought my own and slept on top of the sheets out of worry, but it turned out not to be a big deal. There was some dirt and dust in corners, and I noticed someone else’s hair on the floor after showering, so I stepped out onto a towel. The shower had different settings and stayed hot the whole time. The sink had weak pressure but hot water. We didn’t try the heat or air conditioning. It was quiet outside, and I didn’t see any prostitutes, drunk people, or police on the weekend nights we were there. After driving through other parts of Toledo, the area didn’t seem unsafe to me. It’s near gas stations, Friendly's, Waffle House, and other places. The front desk man recognized us by name since we’d booked online weeks earlier. The ceiling outside the building was partly falling apart, but that didn’t bother us. If all you need is a bed for a few nights and you’re fine with basic, I’d recommend it. I’m a tiny white girl and felt just fine staying there.

Never again. I paid for two non-refundable nights, which was a huge mistake. The room looked clean at first, but I’m not sure when the sheets were last washed. They’re remodeling, and there was literally a dresser outside my room. I should have left after being stuck for 15 minutes in a locked lobby during business hours just to check in. The front desk person was supposedly asleep, and checking out took almost 30 minutes in another locked lobby that was meant to be serving breakfast. When I complained about how ridiculous it was, I was told they’re a little hotel, not a franchise. Worst motel ever.
