The Lodge at Mauston

We stayed a night at The Lodge for a wedding reception, and the facility was amazing. The rooms were huge, modern, beautiful, and spotless. Everyone said the beds and pillows were the most comfortable they'd ever slept on. The reception food and drinks were exceptional, as was the service. All the staff were friendly, helpful, and patient.

The room had a king and a queen, which suited our family of four perfectly. It was spacious and quiet, with a small table where my husband and I played cards with our two teens while enjoying a local hefeweissen beer. The AC kept up with the heat, so we slept comfortably. The beds were better than most hotel beds, and the bathroom was a decent size with good water pressure. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. She offered to light a fire pit if it cooled off from the 95-degree heatwave, and pointed us toward the bar for local brews. We stopped overnight during a cross-country drive. The location was convenient, just off the highway and close to the gas stations we needed before leaving. Breakfast was good, if typical hotel fare, with waffles, eggs, sausage, pastries, and cereal. The price was reasonable, similar to what a Holiday Inn Express might charge, and the experience was better. We didn't use the indoor pool or on-site restaurant, and there was an outdoor seating area in the courtyard. I'd stay again in a heartbeat.

We stayed for a week, and found out they don't turn over the rooms. We had to ask for the small garbage cans to be emptied and for more towels. Still, the hotel is nice and reasonably priced, with free breakfast each morning. It's not a greasy spoon, and the options for everyone are decent, though nothing special. The pool and hot tub are nice, and there's a basic fitness center. This was our second stay, and we'd be happy to come back.

The lobby was welcoming, the hotel was well maintained, and the location was convenient. We had a good complimentary breakfast before checking out. Our king suite was comfortable. The seating area was large enough that I think they could add an end table beside the sofa, or a very small table with a couple of chairs since there's a mini kitchen.
